2024 4-H Fair Information
The 2024 Tippecanoe County 4-H Fair will be from July 19-27
Horse & Pony will have horses on the fairgrounds from check-in day on Friday July 19th to check-out day Thursday July 25th.
Our last club meeting will be THURSDAY July 18th at the Horse Barn on the fairgrounds. First year members meeting @ 6 p.m. Everyone else meeting @ 7 p.m.
You should bring: Drug Affidavit to be signed and notarized, Stall fees ($5 per stall), Dues ($2/kid or $5/family), Mats, shavings, buckets, fans, Tack, Hay, etc
*You will only have 30 minutes on Friday to unload your horse and anything else you need off the trailer during your assigned time slot, so please bring anything extra with you to the meeting on Thursday!*

Friday -
Horse Move-In will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, July 19
We will have sign ups for drop offs with 5 available every 30 minutes.
You will have 30 minutes to unload your animal and any last minute stuff before you will be asked to remove your trailer from the premises.
Saturday - Free Day / Arena Schedule:
First Year Practice: 9 a.m. - 10 a.m.
Contesting Practice: 10 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
Jumping Practice: 1 p.m. - 2 p.m.
Field Day / Games Set Up: 3 p.m. - 5p.m.
OPEN ARENA: 5 p.m. - 8 p.m.
Sunday -
Morning - First Year Member Show at 9 a.m.
Open Arena: 3 p.m. - 5 p.m.
CLOSED ARENA: 5 p.m. - 6 p.m.

Versatility Quick Facts:
It is not too late to sign up for this class, talk to Jordin Fritz if you’d like to enter!
Goal: To show the versatility of horse and rider!
Horses will perform in Hunter Under Saddle, Horsemanship, Western Pleasure, and Barrel Racing!
Horses will enter the pen for a Hunter Under Saddle class.
At the conclusion of the class, a helper will have 5 minutes to help the rider change clothes and tack.
Horses will then perform a Horsemanship Pattern and work on the rail for Pleasure.
At the end of rail work, helpers will have another 2 minutes to change bridles and apply splint boots if necessary.
Horses will then compete in a barrel race!
Wednesday - Western Show
Starts at 12 p.m.
10pm - Horse Move Out
Only horses may leave at this time. We ask to please haul tack out as you are done with your classes or to wait until Thursday.
Thursday - Move Out Day
We highly recommend you take tack home with you as you finish classes to help speed up this process!
Before you are permitted to leave, stalls must be cleaned, walls wiped down, and must be approved by a board member.
All horses must be off the premises by 11:00am and stalls cleaned and finished by noon.
Please respect your board members’ time. Failure to do so may jeopardize next year’s showing ability.
Horse & Pony Barn Rules
This is your child’s project and they are responsible for the majority of the work including but not limited to, feeding, watering, and handling of the animal. If there is a safety concern, please see a board member ASAP.
You will be held responsible for knowing all the regulations in the State 4H Horse and Pony Rule Book AND the Tippecanoe County 4H Hand Book.
Label all equipment before leaving home. The club is not responsible for lost items.
ONLY THE MEMBER EXHIBITING THE ANIMAL MAY RIDE THEIR ENROLLED ANIMAL DURING FAIR. If there is a safety concern please see the superintendent or club leader.
BOARD MEMBER MUST BE PRESENT WHEN ANY HORSE/PONY IS BEING WALKED, RODE OR LUNGED IN EITHER ARENA.
Boots MUST be worn at all times when working with horses – even when not mounted!
Helmets MUST be worn whenever mounted on your horse.
Please do all major clipping at home before arriving at the fairgrounds. Touch up clipping may be done in the horse's stall. NO HORSES MAY BE TIED IN THE BARN AISLES OR TO FENCES!
There is a 20 minute time limit in the wash racks.
DO NOT leave your animal unattended outside the stall.

Hay bags MUST be hung from the back of the stall at chest level or higher and MUST be removed if empty. If your horse is rearing/pawing etc. we will ask you to remove your hay bag for safety purposes
NO LOCKS on the stalls (including tack stalls) – we may need to get to your animal in an emergency.
Provide fresh water to your animal at all times. If you are unable to be at fairgrounds all day to monitor, find a 4H friend who can.
Water buckets must be hung in the back of the stall with CLOSED end clips, ie no S-hooks, bungee cords, etc. Please do not hang buckets with any type of bungee material.
2 bags of shavings per stall are required. Stalls must be cleaned a minimum of TWICE daily AND WILL BE CHECKED. Wheelbarrows will be provided and must be returned to the horse barn after dumping manure. No pellet bedding is allowed.
Horses/Ponies are confined to the horse barn, the arena, and the gravel area in between the barn and arena.
Animals must be LED, NOT RIDDEN to and from the barn and arena. No riding in the barn area.
NO DOUBLE RIDING!
Pedestrians ALWAYS have the right of way.
NO dogs allowed in the barn areas or the fairgrounds.
No Smoking in or around the barns or arenas.
Strollers must remain in the designated stroller parking area. Absolutely no strollers in or near the barn.
NO vehicles are allowed in the barn area and WILL BE TOWED. If you must unload feed or tack, do so before 7am or after 10pm then IMMEDIATELY move your vehicle.
The barns close at 11p. Any member needing more time must ask permission from the superintendent. Adults only allowed for night watchmen.
